Ascot

Ascot è una cittadina che dista meno di un'ora dal Centro di Londra. Una città come tante altre se non fosse che nei mesi estivi, grazie al suo enorme e modernissimo ippodromo diventa la capitale inglese dei cavalli ospitando gare dal tenore internazionale che attirano persone da tutto il mondo.

Come Arrivare

Arrivare a Londra è davvero semplice: i suoi 5 principali aereoporti sono collegati con praticamente qualsiasi città del mondo. Prenotando con anticipo si trovano compagnie low cost che offrono voli a prezzi davvero stracciati. Bisogno solo sempre far attenzione all'aeroporto di arrivo. Alcuni di essi sono distanti dalla città.

Da Londra i modi per raggiungere Ascot sono due:

• In Auto: a quel punto conviene il noleggio direttamente in aeroporto. Quello più vicino a Gatwich. Al Terminal Sud si trovano i banchi delle principali compagnie di autonoleggio. I prezzi per un giorno per una utilitaria partono da 70 euro circa (Hertz una delle migliori). Attenzione alla guida a destra!

• In treno: le offerte per raggiungere Ascot in treno sono molteplici. Una delle più convenienti è sicuramente quella offerta dalla compagnia South West Train dalla Stazione di Waterloo. In 52 minuti si è arrivati direttamente alla stazione di Ascot che dista meno di 400 metri dall'ippodromo. Prezzi a partire da 32 euro A/R.

Dove pernottare:

Londra ha una quantità infinita di Hotel a disposizione. Normalmente i prezzi sono abbastanza elevati. Se non si riesce a trovare un offerta che permetta andata e ritorno in giornata, il consiglio è quello di prendere uno dei molti hotel presenti direttamente negli scali aeroportuali che offrono standard internazionali a prezzi decisamente calmierati. Quello da me testato è l'Hilton Gatwick Airport con stanze doppie a partire da 70 euro a persona.

Quando andare e cosa vedere:

Il Calendario di Ascot è molto fitto. La più importante è sicuramente la Royal Ascot, dove i prezzi sono decisamente proibitivi. Per le altre gare il biglietto d'ingresso parte dalle 30 sterline circa a salire in base all'importanza della gara e al settore scelto. Maggiori informazioni direttamente sul sito dell'ippodromo

Cibo:

All'interno dell'ippodromo sono presenti molti ristoranti e servizi. Si trova di tutto, dal pesce alla carne, dal Sushi alla Pizza. I prezzi non sono modestissimi, ce la si cava con 30 sterline a persona.

Persone:

Gli inglesi amano le gare di cavalli e le scommesse. Ecco perchè troverete davvero pieno il prato di gara ad ogni evento organizzato. Non solo anziani e meno giovani, come si potrebbe pensare basandosi sul settore dell'ippica italiano, ma anche e soprattutto tantissime compagnie di ragazzi.

Il Dress code è decisamente rigido, giacca e cravatta per gli uomini, lungo per le donne. Uno dei motivi per andare e vedere le mise delle ragazze inglese e i cappelli che sfoggiano. Sono davvero uno spettacolo.

Moneta:

In Inghilterra ovviamente non si parla di euro ma di sterline.
Si paga regolarmente anche piccoli importi con carta di credito anche nei ristoranti. Se volete invece scommettere in uno dei mille baracchini presenti nella struttura o nel prato, accettano solo contanti. In quel caso bisogna cambiare all'aeroporto o a Londra in quanto non è presente il cambio nella struttura. Sono presenti invece 4 sportelli ATM per prelevare con Carta di Credito.

Budget:

Andare in giornata o in una due giorni ad Ascott, nonostante si possano trovare delle belle offerte sui voli con le compagnie low cost è abbastanza caro. Bisogna prevedere minimo 250 euro per una due giorni, volo incluso, scommesse escluse.

Particolarità:

Nonostante vedrete come il livello degli inglesi e non presenti sia molto alto, due particolarità non potranno sfuggirvi. La prima che fin dalle 11 della mattina, apertura dei cancelli, troverete gli inglesi sempre con bicchiere in mano. I più giovani con grossi bicchieri di plastica zeppi di birra, i meno giovani con secchielli di Champagne che aprono in continuazione.

La seconda particolarità è che, nonostante i ristoranti interni siano tutti pieni, sembra essere tradizione allestire una sorta di Pic-nic accanto all'auto nel parcheggio adiacente la struttura. La contrapposizione fra l'eleganza dei signori e delle signore ai tavoli, con la semplicità di questo gesto è assolutamente da vedere!
